The Melbourne couple who went missing five days ago while bushwalking in Victoria’s alpine region have been found safe and well.

Trevor Salvado, 60, and Jacinta Bohan, 58, have just been found by a kayaker at Buffalo River.

The experience hikers who knew the area well had set off on what was supposed to be a three-hour hike at Reservoir Track on Mount Buffalo on Friday. They were last seen by friends at a caravan park in Bright that morning. The alarm was raised after they failed to return as planned. Their car was found the next day.

Authorities launched a full-scale search, involving 150 searchers, on Tuesday. Police, Country Fire Authority and State Emergency Service workers, search dogs and bush search and rescue crews revisited parts of the rugged terrain and ventured into areas that were harder to reach.

There was speculation that one of them might have fallen into one of the ravines, and the other went in to help.

After they were found, the couple were taken to hospital for observation.

Earlier, Jacinta Bohan’s sister, Maria, said the couple had been visiting the area for eight years.

“They’re very healthy,” she told the Nine Network. “They’re used to being out for hours and walking, and, you know, they spend a lot of time outside.”

Victoria police thanked search crews and the public for their assistance.

  1. Good to hear they are both OK

  2. With the greatest respect. Experienced ? I would have thought a personal
EPB would have saved a lot of expense and worry.?
All those helicopter hours , police. Most of that could have been avoided by
setting off an EPB once you realise you are lost and family worried sick?

    • Good to hear found safe.
      Yes.
Experienced does not sound correct. How does one get so lost if you know the area well. Sounds like tbe vital bush tool — a compass was not in the hiking bag.
