New South Wales

New South Wales is Australia’s most populous state with some seven million inhabitants. A large proportion of these, of course, live in Sydney the state’s vibrant and stunningly scenic capital. Most of the others are sprinkled along the 2000-kilometre coastline in idyllic locations like Coffs Harbour, Nelson Bay and Batemans Bay. Naturally enough the beaches are a large part of the state’s attraction to the many of grey nomads that pass through. There are some fantastic national parks and some great camping, fishing, swimming, snorkelling and whale watching.

But inland New South Wales is something special too, not least because you can leave the crowds behind. Outback legends like Broken Hill really are a must-visit and there are other Aussie icons like country music capital Tamworth and opal-hunting mecca, Lightning Ridge.

And that’s just the towns. The Blue Mountains, the Snowy Mountains, the Hunter Valley and the Great Dividing Range are just a handful of the incredible destinations the state offers. I guess there’s a reason why New South Wales is the country’s most populous state ... it’s beautiful!
