Western Australia

Western Australia is massive. It covers some 2.5million square kilometres, that’s an incredible one third of the land mass of Australia.

For that reason alone, it is likely to account for a significant part of your trip. Happily, there is enough variety and interest here to keep you entertained for years, if not decades. Most grey nomads will immediately identify with the north of the state, after all places like Broome are a veritable mecca for older travellers during the dry season. And there’s also the sheer magnificence of the Kimberley Region and stunning national parks like Karijini. There are gorgeous beaches all down the west coast and the colours and clarity of the glorious Indian Ocean will take your breath away. Oh, this is paradise all right.

Perth is reputed to be the most isolated city in the world but it has to be one of the most beautiful, too. It is clean, attractive and, thanks to the state’s mining resources, absolutely booming.

The south-west corner hosts the treasures of the Margaret River wine region and the majesty of the giant Karri forests.

Go west young grey nomads, you won’t regret it.
