Glenrowan Tourist Park
The grey nomad-friendly Glenrowan Tourist Park is set in 35 glorious acres and offers magnificent views of the nearby ranges. Just 10 minutes away is the attractive rural city of Wangaratta, while the thriving tourist town of Glenrowan – the scene of the Kelly gang’s infamous final shootout with police – is a scenic two-kilometre stroll.
Hosts Gary and Jill Thayer took over the park in December 2006 and it has since been completely revamped and re-designed. There is room for about 25 vans in a genuine bush setting with kangaroos and native wildlife for company. There are drive-through sites and slabs for the annex. Eight brand new cabins have also been built.
The Thayers have worked hard to ensure that this small, attractive park is particularly welcoming to grey nomads. It’s a perfect spot to stop, re-charge your batteries and explore the wineries and historical sites that abound in this area. Sites cost a basic $20 for 2 persons per night. The toilets and showers are clean, well-maintained and even much admired!
Animals are allowed and there is a dump point. A fully equipped camp kitchen is also provided, as is a swimming pool and, best of all, a genuinely friendly atmosphere.
