A Drop of Rain
by Berni Homan
Imagine how disastrous A Drop of Rain can be...
Berni Homan's heart was moved by the many stories of pain, assistance, and humour she heard from the victims, helpers, and witnesses of what A Drop of Rain has caused on Coffs Coast. In this book, she invites you to feel and see how Coffs Coast received a month’s worth of rain in a day that led to that devastating flood on March 31, 2009, and its devastating effects.
It’s been more than a year since that first drop of rain hit the soil, since that first drop of rain made a hole in the clouds allowing millions of other drops of rain to fall... too many millions for Coffs Coast to bear. Having the privilege to feel the fear and sadness of some families as they told her their stories, and having seen the devastation firsthand through the homes of the victims who invited her into their lives, the author shares these victims’ piercing and raw emotions through the stories of this book. Aside from the agony and trauma, she also interweaves the fulfilling, comforting, and inspiring stories of the warmth and benevolence of those who offered help. As well, she interjects some laughter for those who saw the humour and light-heartedness in the catastrophe.
A Drop of Rain is a collection of the many vignettes of the people who experienced the harshness that nature can bestow upon the earth. It also features some informative facts about that flood that washed Coffs Coast.
