Time to relax

Grey nomads come in all shapes and sizes and are on the road for a host of different reasons. If there is such a thing, Jock and Lynn Kingston from Sydney are probably pretty typical.

The couple decided to go travelling when Jock retired from running his own business. "I was always busy," Jock says. "I was always dashing around from one place to another. It was crazy. A couple of my friends dropped dead. They were the same age as me and I just thought 'what's it all about'?"

The couple decided that what it was all about was having the time to enjoy the fruits of their hard labour. They have been travelling the country in their 28-foot Winnebago Alpine for the past three years and are loving it.

"I'm just a different person now," says Jock, as he sips a cold beer. "I think I've learned how to truly relax and I've learned how to catch fish, as well." Jock and Lynn are happy to camp at free rest stops and also to spend money to enjoy the facilities of quality caravan parks. When they stop somewhere for a while they unhitch the Suzuki Jimini runabout that they always tow.

"We've never had any trouble on the road," says Jock. "I think everyone out there is pretty good and you can trust most people. That's one of the greatest things about travelling in Australia."

And the downside?

"Lynn misses the Grandkids like you wouldn't believe," says Jock wistfully. "But unfortunately you just can't have everything."
