The photo entitled 'Longreach Waterhole Elliot, NT' has been named the top shot by voters in the 'Life on the Road' grey nomads photographic competition.  The picture of a magnificent sunset with a bird taking off in the foreground received steady support throughout the voting process and was just able to hold off a late surge in votes from several other entries.
“I think 'Longreach Waterhole' is a great shot,” said Judge Steve Jones. “It not only captures an incredible moment as a bird takes off into a perfect sunset, but it also exudes the sense of peace and wonder that being on the road brings. The reflections and colours are just spectacular."

'Kettle's On,' our second place shot, was only a few votes behind the winner.
“I liked the contrasts in this photo,” said Steve. “The silhouette of the billy against a red-hot fire on an open wood burner made for an abstract, but evocative shot. It really captured the epitome of living on the road, and is an interesting twist on the classic image of a billy on an open fire."

Our third place winner was 'Solving the Problems of the Universe.'
“This picture really has it all ... a fantastic view, good company, an interesting chat and an evening near the campfire stretching ahead. It looks so inviting and relaxing, it makes me want to be there joining in," said Steve.

Congratulations again to our three winners and to all our finalists and indeed to all of our entrants. It’s been a great competition.
