While there is no shortage of grey nomads who have had their trips ruined by accidents while on the road, there are an unlucky few who haven’t even made it that far.
John and Margaret from the Sydney suburb of Ambarvale can now consider themselves among them. The couple’s planned Easter adventure into Victoria has been abandoned after a car crashed into their parked motorhome in the early hours of the morning.
Campbelltown police have just released CCTV images showing the moment a Holden Commodore station wagon crashed into the couple’s $150,000 rig, which was parked on the side of a street outside their home.
The motorhome sustained extensive damage to its front end, and the driver of the offending car then sped off.
“The motorhome is with the smash repairer now,” John, who wanted to withhold his surname, told the Macarthur Chronicle. “It’s very upsetting because they just drove away … I don’t understand how they managed to hit the vehicle, it was parked off the road.”
The Macarthur Chronicle reports that the couple were woken by the loud smash following the incident but by the time John had opened the front door the Commodore had sped off.
“John came back inside and said ‘that’s it we’re not going away’,” Margaret said. “We just hope that someone who knows this person recognises the vehicle and contacts the police.”
