3-month contract

Our family is seeking a caring and active Educator / Governess. The role does not involve housework as this is handled by other staff.

We are advertising in the Grey Nomad website, as we think there might be a couple (or single!), currently travelling Australia, who seek a 3-month contract between now and the Christmas break.

The successful applicant/s will be prepared to live on the farm (in a separate cottage) – in isolation until the COVID situation improves. If things do not improve, the role may be on the farm for the full 3 months.

Educator/governess role

You will be responsible for caring for our children. Your responsibilities include:

  • Age-appropriate learning activities and play: Learning activities at home (such as music, art & craft, puzzles, reading, writing and outdoor play).
  • Meals: preparing all children’s meals and feeding the children.
  • Personal hygiene: including dressing, and brushing their teeth.
  • Clothes: washing, folding, and putting away children’s clothing.

The role is 4 or 5 days per week with 15-month-old toddler and 5-year-old on a farm in Geurie.

Partner role (farm employee)

We are an irrigation farm – and we have work for the partner of the Educator/Governess. Harvest is coming up, renovating farm accommodation, undertaking spray programs, and preparing a farm for sale, so there is plenty of work for a partner (we have 5 staff on the farm, 2 of the staff who are early 60’s who have been with us for a few years). We can offer a PAYG or contract rate for the farm labour. The farm has high safety standards with weekly meetings, so it aims to offer an organised and professional farm business workplace. The farm grows popcorn, sweetcorn, adzuki beans, chickpeas, wheat, barley, as well as breeding cattle, trade cattle and trade sheep.

Ideally, we seek people who have a high work ethic, and understands they will become a close member of our family (whilst living in a separate cottage!)

Work hours:

  • Work only on weekdays
  • Work hours are minimum 30 hours, ideally up to 40 hours
  • Fixed work hours, same hours each day

The role requires the applicant to move onto our farm and live in a one-bedroom cottage during the contract period. Whilst we are in lockdown, we are not leaving the farm (other than for medical appointments), and have groceries are delivered via Woolworths’s home delivery and the local post office provides all other online shopping. There are weekly deliveries of take away from Zin House in Mudgee, which are amazing.

You must:

  • Ideally have had at least one COVID-19 vaccine
  • Have or be working towards getting your Certificate III in Early Childhood Education & Care or demonstrated experience
  • 2 professional references
  • Have WWCC, Police Check, CPR and Level 2 First Aid (or willing to obtain)
  • Have a car & driver’s licence (we supply car for travel during work hours)
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Have the right to work in Australia (Applicants with 417 & 462 visas need not apply)
  • Have had a COVID test prior to working
