Those Grey Nomads who venture to the Snowy Mountains town of Cooma are welcome to drop in at my place for a night or three of free camping. “Grays’ Camp”, as I call it, is a small and cozy spot that affords room for one caravan set-up. While it is on Council land it adjoins my back yard and gives a feeling of being part of another Grey Nomad’s perks and quirks is guaranteed.
“Greys’ Camp” is situated in at the northern end, the rather historic part of town. It was here where the so-called “Snowy houses’ were constructed by the Snowy Mountain Authority for their workers at the start of work constructions of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme in 1958.
Greys’ camp is easily accessible from the Snowy Mountains Hwy. It sits on top of a rise, with easy drive-in/drive-out parking. It offers sun, shade and quiet. Distance into Cooma is 1.8 km, a leisure walk of 15 minutes at most and downhill all the way. Dump side is 2.6 km distance.
Caravanners should have a self-contained set-up, but may plug in to my mains power.

The surrounding Snowy Mountains area is spectacular with an abundance of campsites to choose from. Though situated within Kosciusko National Park there’s no entry fee to be paid, hence free camping. Before I turned Grey Nomad I spent years of horse camping in these areas and I am more than happy to hook up, guide you around and, if you like, and camp with you. Bring your kayak, mountain bike, fishing rod, camera and whatever else you fancy. We’d be having a jolly good time!
