Caravan destroyed by fire at South Grafton van park

Published: September 5, 2016

A caravan was completely destroyed when it caught on fire early this morning at a caravan park on the New South Wales mid north coast.

Two people were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after the blaze at Grafton Sunset Caravan Park in South Grafton. It is thought the fire may have been started by a short circuit on an overloaded powerboard.

NSW South Grafton Captain Dennis Pye told the Grafton Daily Examiner that the fire was brought under control in half an hour, but the caravan and an annexe were destroyed.

“The next caravan was a little affected by radiant heat but there was no structural damage,” he said.

The male occupant of the caravan and his son were taken by ambulance to Grafton Base Hospital, and are under observation.

This is not the first caravan fire this year, and grey nomads and other caravan users are urged to remain ever vigilant and cautious.
