Thieves have once again been targeting caravan parks and camping areas in search of easy pickings.

In New South Wales, police in the Manning Great Lakes area say unsecured items including scooters, pushbikes and personal property have been taken from a variety of sites in a spate of incidents.

Last week, two pushbikes were stolen from a caravan park in Forster and a make-up bag was stolen from a caravan park in Tuncurry.

One day later, a motorised scooter and a push bike were stolen from a caravan park in Harrington.

Police are also investigating the theft of a mountain bike which had been cut from its secure mounting at the rear of a caravan at the Diamond Head campground.

Police are warning all travellers to secure their possession and to be security aware.

While the school h0lidays can bring a spike in these sorts of incidents, grey nomads will be all too aware that campsites and camping areas can attract opportunistic thieves looking for ‘soft targets’.

We must be vigilant unfortunately. The other day at Telegraph Point my partner stepped out of our motorhome as a backpacker walk towards us. Obviously the backpacker assumed the motorhome was unattended and open as he almost came in through the door and was startled that I was sitting quietly in a seat reading. It only takes a few minutes for these things to happen. Gone are the days when you can have a level of trust in fellow travellers. I find it sad because being suspicious of people is not a natural trait yet these days there are so many people who think they deserve whatever we have and they’re prepared to take it.

yes free travel as they sell the items in the next town –

I am in a caravan park in Kialla Victoria, my RV is parked in a spare block amid residential 55 and over having to remain here due to chemo at GV Hosp trying to sell RV I was shattered to find my bush lights cut and taken leaving bare wires hanging.

If you don’t lock it you lose it, common practice

Unfortunately nothing is safe these days, I usually walk around every couple of hours even at night if I wake for a loo break or a drink I will also have a look around outside especially when free parking

We live in an over 55s village in the South West of WA and 1 night someone jumped the fence and stole fish from the village fish pond. Security cameras have since been installed at quite an expense.

I am a solo traveller and always use an alarmed cable lock which I run through my Solar Panels, BBQ and Satellite Dish or and anything else I might be concerned will take a walk during the day or night.
