The Easter ‘break’ became just that for one careless holidaymaker when a caravan and tow vehicle parted ways on the Bruce Highway yesterday.
Police say the incident drama unfolded on the Gunalda Range between Gympie and Tiaro in Queensland.
The disconnected caravan blocked the southbound lanes causing traffic chaos, but it is not believed anyone was hurt in the incident or that any other vehicles collided with the runaway rig.
The ball broke at the top of the threaded part, but luckily it happened as I was reversing into a caravan park site in Tasmania; we had just negotiated some steep windy roads. Examination of the two pieces of the ball, by an industrial engineer, revealed it had in fact 4 breaks. I now buy a new ball every year or so depending on where we have been, that would affect it integrity; hills or flat country. They don’t cost a lot of money against what your life, and others on the road, is worth.
