Grey nomads in Victoria – like everybody else in the state – are being warned to batten down the hatches as a massive storm is due to hit tomorrow.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a strong cold front will move through in the morning, producing winds of up to 100km/h for the south west, central, Gippsland and parts of the north east. The shocking weather is forecast to begin battering Melbourne in the afternoon.
State Emergency Centre experts have warned of possible power outages, fallen trees and branches … and they have urged people to try to move motor vehicles under cover, and secure items such as outdoor furniture, which can cause substantial damage if blown around in fierce winds.
Anyone who finds themselves on the road when the wild weather arrives are also being warned to take extreme care.
Waves of more than seven metres are also expected to hit Victoria’s west coast tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday.
The state is still recovering from a severe storm on Sunday that caused widespread damage and left about 36,000 homes without power. While most grey nomads do their best to follow the sun, exposure to the odd monster storm is an occupational hazard for those who travel a country as vast and as climactically varied as Australia.
