Staggering images of more than 70 huge tiger sharks tearing apart a whale in Western Australia have caused quite a stir.
Dozens of tourists in small boats were literally floating above the feeding frenzy near Shark Bay, watching on as the sharks ripped at the carcass of the giant mammal.
Done and GoPro footage of the incident was uploaded on to the Eco Abrolhos Cruises Facebook page and has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
“Passengers on our 14-day Geraldton to Broome and everywhere in between were treated to an unexpected phenomena while cruising inside Dirk Hartog Island,” the caption read. “Something to show and tell the grandchildren.”
Tiger sharks can grow up to seven metres long and weigh up to 520 kilograms. The north-west WA coast has one of the world’s largest populations of tiger sharks.
“It’s videos like this that make it hard to pretend there’s no sharks in the water,” one Facebook user said.
