You never know what’s going to happen when you’re out on the road … as the caravanner on the far right of this picture can testify!
A video posted by a road train driver on the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook site shows the heart-stopping moment both he and the caravanner were forced off the Stuart Highway by a racing team driver returning from the Darwin Supercars.
The racing team 4WD towing a caravan speeds towards the road train on the wrong side of the road while overtaking another 4WD, also towing a caravan.
The NT News reports that, as the three vehicles hurtle together, the triple road train and the innocent caravanner both veer off the road to allow the other 4WD to speed between them with mere centimetres to spare.
Under the video, the Jesus Racing Team has posted an apology, admitting it was a member of their team who was driving the overtaking vehicle.
“Our driver made a stupid decision, he was waved past by the guy in the caravan in front, he pulled out and instead of hitting the brakes and pulling back he misjudged the situation,” a spokesman for the team said. “He is very thankful to the truck driver and we have endeavoured to contact him to both thank him for his great work at the wheel and to apologise for the incident.”
