Highway three-point turn goes wrong for campervan

Published: May 27, 2017

A bizarre accident involving a hired campervan has left a group of four overseas tourists extremely red faced but, thankfully uninjured.

The driver was about 50 kilometres south of Darwin when he realised he was heading in the wrong direction and attempted an ill-advised three point turn on the Stuart Highway,.

Channel 9 reports that the red-faced adventurer accidentally reversed at speed into a directional ‘Katherine to Darwin’ road sign. The metal sign pierced the campervan’s cabin and became wedged in the vehicle’s bedroom. The metal posts which are used to support the sign were crushed under the van’s wheels.

Despite the severity of the impact, none of the tourists were hurt.

“We’re happy and relieved they’re all okay,” said a spokesperson for the campervan hire company, Britz.

Passing locals stopped to assist, and spent an hour hammering the sign free of the vehicle.

“Hopefully they know which way Darwin is now,” said witness, Ben John.

That’s terrible but luckily the 4 tourist are not injured in the accident. We never know when the disaster happens. Even the professional campervan driver got confused and turning in the wrong direction. Lesson learned here, take extra care as a friendly reminder to all young and old drivers who has years of driving experience. Accident hire car is available when accident was not your fault. It is by the law in Australia to continue your road trips.
