A lone bushwalker has gone missing in southern Tasmania, highlighting once again the dangers of setting off into wilderness areas without proper preparation.
The search is continuing for a New South Wales man, Paul Stephen Wilson, after he disappeared while hiking in Mount Field National park on Monday.
The 49-year-old Tuggerah resident was only lightly dressed when he set off for his walk and it’s unclear if he was carrying any supplies. His abandoned hire car was found several days ago. The ABC reports that police, SES and walking club volunteers, as well as a dog search team and the rescue helicopter are scouring rugged bushland.
They have been searching walking tracks, road verges and huts throughout the national park but have yet to find any further trace of the missing man. Mr Wilson is described as relatively fit but police concede time is against them. ?
