In what is turning out to be a horror week on the roads, two more nasty caravanning accidents took place yesterday.
In New South Wales, a man aged in his late 60s was taken to hospital after the 4WD he was driving while towing a caravan, flipped  on the Summerland Way north of Banyabba.
The man was trapped for a short time before being removed from the vehicle and  taken to Grafton Base Hospital complaining of lower back pain.
And in northern Queensland, two caravans  collided with a third vehicle on Bingil Bay Road, north of Mission Beach.
The Queensland Ambulance Service reported that one man involved in the incident suffered an arm injury, but it is not believed to have been serous.
Full details of both incidents are not yet known, but investigations into the causes are ongoing.
Earlier this week, a 4WD towing a caravan rolled on the Stuart Highway just north of Devils Marbles.
You see hundreds of Caravans on the road each day with very few accidenrs
You see hundreds of Caravans on the road each day with very few accidents
The one in fnq was caused by a drugged up idiot driving on the wrong side of the road.
Lets hope everyone is ok our thoughts are with all concerned and thier families.
I am sure that loading up the caravan cause many accidents. Packing at the rear can cause the van to swing and if the driver doesn’t know how to get out of this problem it is an accident waiting to happen. The company should point out some of these factors to the client especially if the customer has never had a caravan before.
We hope other men’s shed workshops could be organised in other areas. We are from Wollongong NSW.
All caravaners should be made to. Have a special lience. To tow on.
I read somewhere that there are about 600,000 caravans, motorhomes, camper trailers, etc registered across Australia. Granted they are not on the road at the same time, but 3 involved in accidents represents 0.0005% of the total. How many cars were involved in accidents of any size across Australia during the same period? How many trucks were involve in accidents of any sort over the same period?
I wouldn’t want to see anyone hurt in any accident, but even if there were 3 accidents involving RVs every week, that would be 156 in a year, or 0.026 of one percent of the registered RV vehicles.
Rather than police just releasing the ‘headline’ sensational news and requisite sound bite warnings, it would be more instructive If authorities released detailed follow up information as to causes so we all could use these incidents as the basis for learning, modifying behaviours and, perhaps, changing vehicle design requirements.
Exactly. The adverts on the tv for the so called work/play dual cab Tues. Promote poor driver behaviour. Disregard for worksite safety and tear-up the environment ‘exciting’ driving.
In my humble opinion. Dual cab use tradies and posers are a greater menace than caravaners.
Just saying
