Couple killed in collision with caravan-towing 4WD

Published: March 21, 2012

Two people have died in a collision between a motorcycle and a caravan-towing 4WD in South Australia’s southern Flinders Ranges.

A 66-year-old male motorcyclist from Murdoch, in WA, died at the scene. His 64-year-old pillion passenger, also from Murdoch, was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but died before she arrived.

Those in the four-wheel-drive were uninjured.

Police say early investigations indicate the motorcycle was towing a small trailer and the four-wheel-drive was towing a caravan. The accident happened on RM Williams Way just south of Orroroo. Major crash officers are investigating.

There have been 23 people killed on SA roads for the year compared with 24 at the same time last year.

It is another tragic reminder of the need for us all to be ever vigilant on our roads, and of how quickly a dream trip can turn into a nightmare.
