Iconic Outback pub on the market for cool $2.5 million

Published: September 26, 2019

There have been a number of Outback pubs that have gone on the market in recent years, but few more iconic than the Silverton Hotel in New South Wales.

While the town itself has a miniscule population, the dusty drinking hole reportedly attracts a whopping 120,000 tourists each year.

Channel 9 reports that, as well as being a tourist magnet, the pub has played backdrop to some legendary Australian films including Mad Max, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and A Town Like Alice. The bar boasts a treasure trove of star-studded photographs and cinematic memorabilia.

Now in their 70s, Peter and Patsy Price who have owned the hostelry for many years have decided they are ready to retire and pull up stumps on Silverton.

“When we bought it, I said to Patsy we better go and see how you run a pub,” Peter told Channel 9. “So off we went to three little country pubs and said to each other that’s not how you do it.”

The duo transformed the place into what it is today.

“Three hundred meals a day through school holidays, and we employ 12 staff  – we have really kicked it along from that little country pub,” said Peter. “There’s a good buck in it but you don’t get time to spend it, no holidays, so you do a 10-year stint, save your money and go away to spend it all.”

The couple hopes the pub will fetch around $2.5 million.
