Caravan park thieves shatter age of innocence

Take care with valuables, wherever you are camped

The days of grey nomad innocence are well and truly over.
Petty thieves have swept through another caravan park in Queensland, sending another sad reminder to travellers that – sadly – security must always be top of mind.
According to police in Hervey Bay, one man had fishing rods stolen from outside his caravan at Pialba Beachfront Caravan Park, while another camper had a mini-fridge stolen from the same park. A mobile phone was also stolen from campers at the park. The incidents happened over the weekend.
Police reminded people staying in caravans they still needed to stow away their valuables and should be aware criminals would take advantage of any opportunity.
Do you feel your property is secure at caravan parks? Do you feel less vulnerable to thieves at free camps? Comment below.

Re staying safe
Sadly in the past few months two travellers parking at rest stops just south of Taree have been assaulted and robbed. While it is unknown whether the same two offenders were involved I suggest that until they are caught it would be prudent not to use this stop unless there are others already there, and it might be better to not use this area for overnight stays if there is only one other vehicle (not a caravan) there. Full reports of these attacks are in the Manning River Times.
