Which tourism attractions will grey nomads honour?

Well, they weren’t exactly the ‘Grey Nomads Tourism Awards’ (or perhaps the result may have been different) but the announcement of the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards at least threw up some talking points.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park took out the honour for being the best major tourist attraction, while the 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival was named the best major festival.

Elsewhere, Tasmania fared very well as the 28th annual awards were announced in Hobart.
The Apple Isle’s Maria Island Walk was honoured in the adventure tourism category, the  Pennicott Wilderness Journeys was recognised for excellence in sustainable, and Bruny Island cruises won gold in both the tourist attractions and ecotourism categories.

In the Tourist and Caravan Parks section, BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort, Qld, took out the top gong.

Among the winners were:

• Major Tourist Attraction – Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, NT.
• Tourist Attraction – Bruny Island Cruises, Tas.
• Major Festivals and Events – 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival, NSW.
• Festivals and Events – Deny Ute Muster, NSW.
• Ecotourism – Bruny Island Cruises, Tas.
• Heritage and Cultural Tourism – Venture North Australia, NT.
• Indigenous Tourism – RT Tours Australia, NT.
• Major Tour and/or Transport Operators – Yellow Water Cruises, NT.
• Adventure Tourism – The Maria Island Walk, Tas.
• Tourist and Caravan Parks – BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort, Qld.
