More cabins on cards for Fraser Coast van parks

Published: March 25, 2021

Two council caravan parks on Queensland’s Fraser Coast are to lose 30% of the sites currently available.

In adopting the master plans for the Burrum Heads and Scarness Beachfront Tourist Parks, the council said the option of introducing on-site accommodation would now be considered as a way to counter the expected loss of income.

The Fraser Coast Chronicle reports that such a move would allow the parks to cater for a new market not currently accommodated within any council caravan parks.

A report prepared for Fraser Coast Regional Council said that, overall, the planned upgrades would ensure the parks met contemporary standards and visitor expectations, and ensure that they remained commercially viable.

The master plan designs were finalised after receiving feedback from stakeholders and the community, and funding has been allocated in the 10-year Capital Program for works to be undertaken over the next five years.

According to the Fraser Coast Chronicle, it was also recommended dog friendly areas be created within the Pialba and Burrum Heads Parks, subject to relevant terms and conditions being put in place.

The council voted unanimously for the motion.

With caravan sales booming, where are the vans going to go if they keep putting in cabins?

It is no wonder that Caravan Parks are putting in more cabins. Read the whinging comments on this site about the cost of sites and caravanners all want to “free camp”. These parks have got to make a living. Cabins are the way to go.

It’s not the caravan parks making money here, its the local council, these parks are council owned.
I bet that the beach front will be all cabins with caravan located at the back.
Disappointing from our council.

Agree. More cabins for families. This will attract more money to the community.

Plenty of empty motel rooms in Hervey Bay. Even more when these cabins are built.

We don’t hear anything about the Motels complaining about the van parks putting in cabins. Perhaps they put it in the too hard basket and you may find that some of the cp owners are on council.

Jeepers, I hope all the Motelliers complain long & hard about Caravan Parks taking their market. The gall of them to put in cabins. Council will have no option but to ban cabins in Caravan parks.

The Burrum Heads Caravan Park was NEVER intended to be a caravan Park. It was supposed to be a Park for the locals. The land was donated to the people by a local resident. The Fraser council made it int a Caravan Park QA question of semantics. At one stage they even tried to sell it to themselves for a $1 but were thwarted. The last survivor of the family who donated the land couldn’t afford to fight the council and passed on having livied in the Private Caravan Park for years before passing

The trouble is WE…WE…WE…never…never write to Councils requesting these and more sites be opened……Plenty of whinging but not to Councils direct…Have YOU ever written to a council. I do after EVERY Freedom stopocver. If they don’t get letters nothing happens.

Burrum Heads really does need some upgrades, it is one of those parks built for 16ft vans.It is a lovely little park in a top spot but getting anything over 20ft in when the park has a few in it , is pretty hard. But I guess there are a lot of parks like that.I should imagine the rates will go up as well. As a consequence, I don’t suppose these shires will provide more camp areas (free or otherwise) for RVs? If they want the RV tourists we have park up somewhere. Or is that too logical?
