WA wildflower season set to be ‘one of best ever’

Published: June 21, 2021

Grey nomads who will be in Western Australia in the coming months are being told they can expect a bumper wildflower season.

Perth Now reports that steady rain since February has resulted in what some tourism operators believe will be the best blooming year ever.

More than 12,000 species of wildflowers bloom in WA, with 60% of them not found anywhere else in the world.

Wooleen Station sits on a quarter-million acres of prime wildflower country in WA’s Murchison region and owner Frances Pollock said this year’s crop of flowers could be a record-breaker.

“The State is putting it on this year, it’s going to be splendid,” she told Perth Now. “To be honest, it’s so hard to describe because it’s just magic.”

Ms Pollock told the newspaper that the rains had made the region a natural ‘wonderland’, with water in the rivers and huge flocks of birds.

“You can walk a few steps and see things you’ve never seen before,” she said.

Ballidu Bush Care operator Rod Clarke at Wongan Hills also thinks this could be the best wildflower season ever.

“There’s been excellent rainfall from Wongan up to Wubin and then out to the Goodlands Road which is where you can find wreath flowers, and out to Bonnie Rock and Balagie –  it’s hard to believe but some paddocks are now lakes,” he said.

WA’s annual wildflower season one of Australia’s great natural wonders, and is a Big Lap highlight for many grey nomads.

Is WA still part of Australia, or do we need a passport to go there these days? 🙂

All are welcome. Just make sure you follow our rules!
In fact, consider moving here permanently. You will then be joining us in providing all that GST to the other states. Oh, what a feeling!

Over priced and overrated.

Sorry you feel that way. It’s just that we do need to charge a “teeny” bit more to cover all the GST we send over the border. Come on, give us another go cobber.

That’s good. Smart people those ones asking you to return. I will arrange a current “visitor’s’ visa for entry to WA from Australia 🙂

Oh,oh looks like that visa will need to be put on hold. The Perth and Peel regions over here in WA are on lock down for 4 days . Could be longer.

Wildflower hotspots in W.A are in the gascoyne, murchison and midwest august september then as these areas get hot there are good displays around perth and through the southwest in october november

Just consistently unlock your borders to the rest of Australia so we can enjoy what you have to offer. We cannot rely on the WA State Government to do the right thing to the rest of the country so we keep putting our trip to WA on hold. I’ll likely be dead before I get the opportunity to travel to WA.
