Major new caravan park planned near Bribie Island

Published: July 2, 2013

A new caravan park is to be built near Queensland’s Bribie Island, with supporters hoping it will attract grey nomads and others and inject new life into the local economy.

When completed, The Sandstone Point Family Holiday Resort will have 79 powered caravan/camping sites, 49 cabins and 22 tent sites.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has just approved the application from Bribie Waters Pty Ltd (part of the Comiskey Group) to build the complex on the shores of Pumicestone Passage, just south of the Bribie bridge where you cross over to the island.

Bribie Island is a 34-kilometre long sand island in the northern part of Moreton Bay and is blessed with stunning white sandy beaches. It can be accessed via a bridge and is about an hour’s drive for Brisbane.

Bribie Island Chamber of Commerce president Rhonda Cockinos told the Brisbane Courier-Mail that that the new park, along with Comiskey’s adjacent hotel/function centre complex, would bring many new people to the area.

“The whole resort is going to boost the economy – it’s a win, win situation, Mrs Cockinos said.

The hotel, motel and function centre, approved in January, will feature a two-storey, 3000sq m hotel, a six-storey motel with 50 rooms, and a 950sq m museum.

Will it be RV friendly or priced out of range?

Hope it is pet friendly and large sites, and not full of cabins. That is not being a caravan / big rig park if full of cabins.

49 cabins and 22 tent sites and 79 caravan sites. You do the Math. sounds more like a cabin park.

Sounds like a great idea. It means jobs for the community, a boost for businesses and more accommodation for travellers to enjoy beautiful Bribie Island. I’m just wondering if you can purchase a site or cabin? I think it is a positive move, can’t understand why there are so many negative responses. Bit sad really, I think it is exciting, can’t wait to see it!!
