Woof Woof! The era of the truly dog-friendly van park site could be here!

Published: December 29, 2022

Travelling with a dog inevitably imposes significant limitations on the Big Lap adventures of pet-owning grey nomads … but there are signs that times they are a-changin’.

The Capital Country Holiday Park, which sits on 40 acres near Canberra, is one of the pioneers of the truly ‘dog-friendly’ site’.

Stephen Lindsay from the park told the Grey Nomads that, while many van parks claim to be dog friendly, the current definition of dog-friendly rules state your dog must be tethered to the caravan or vehicle at all times.

“We thought about what the dog owner and dog would really prefer and created our Dog Freedom Sites,” he said. “These are fenced so your dog may roam freely in and out of your caravan within the enclosed site.”

Mr Lindsay said the park has offset the Freedom Sites so the dogs are not next to, or opposite, each other to reduce barking.

Every dog has its day in these spacious enclosures.

“Also, other customers walking past the dogs feel safer than when a tethered dog can still run up to you looking for a pat but can still be scary,” he said. “We do charge a premium for the site for the additional infrastructure and maintenance … however the dog owners are very happy customers.” Capital Country Holiday Park currently has four Dog Freedom Sites, and these are apparently the most in-demand powered sites.

“Customers can drive changes through demand, so I expect there will be further innovation in the future and probably better products for dog lovers,” said Mr Lawrence.

WIN! WIN! WIN!

Grey Nomad Members now have the opportunity to win six 750ml eco flat bottles of Pinot Grigio (total value of $96) from Banrock Station.
The new eco-flat wine bottle is made entirely from Australian-sourced 100% recycled PET plastic, which is 83% lighter than a glass bottle. The slimmer, flatter profile allows twice as many bottles to fit in a standard wine case.
It’s lighter to carry, takes up less space in your van, is easy to store in your fridge or esky, and is great for life on the road.

Tough! So I suppose you also don’t like childrens play areas in c.van parks as well. If you know a van park has children or dog’s there, don’t go there.

Yes I’d prefer you leave your kids at home. Much noisier than dogs. I’d love to see a no_ children caravan park. Dogs don’t wander through your site & get in your face.

Some people just seem to be never ending whingers…
always complaining..!
Don’t know why they travel as they never seem to be happy and enjoying life and what could be their last years..
They go to caravan parks n winge about the kids, dogs, cost and everything else.
Why don’t they just go bush, or far away from everything and everyone, sit in the bush and complain and winge so that no one else can hear or see them..???
Then the MAJORITY of the rest of us can enjoy our lives and everything happy and enlightening that it has to offer..
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all those non whinging people who enjoy everything about life and look forward to the future.
Cheers..
