A new campground and picnic area has officially opened at Lake Kepwari near the WA town of Collie, completing a $5.8 million transformation designed to lure grey nomads and other tourists to the area.
The David Ugle Campground consists of 32 campsites at the northern edge of the lake, bringing the total number of campsites at Lake Kepwari to 53.
The campground on the eastern side has been renamed Mick Murray Campground to acknowledge the former Local Member’s contribution to the development and his commitment to the Collie community.
A new picnic area has also been unveiled along with improved pathway access, barbeque shelters and toilet facilities.

The former open cut coal mine site has been transformed into a water-based recreation hub for boating, swimming, water-skiing and camping. Construction first began in December 2019 with the opening of the boat ramp area following a year later.
The new facilities are part of the McGowan Government’s $24.5 million infrastructure investment program into parks and forests in the Collie region. This includes a mega mural at Wellington Dam as well as mountain bike, walk and drive trails through the Collie River Valley and Ferguson Valley.
“I’m so proud to see Lake Kepwari transform into a popular water-based recreational hub,” said Member for Collie-Preston, Jodie Hanns. “These new attractions will lure more visitors to the area, boosting our local economy.”
Lake Kepwari recorded more than 51,000 visitors last year.

Today is the last day for Grey Nomad Members to enter our competition to win six 750ml eco flat bottles of Pinot Grigio (total value of $96) from Banrock Station.
The new eco-flat wine bottle is made entirely from Australian-sourced 100% recycled PET plastic, which is 83% lighter than a glass bottle. The slimmer, flatter profile allows twice as many bottles to fit in a standard wine case.
It’s lighter to carry, takes up less space in your van, is easy to store in your fridge or esky, and is great for life on the road.
