It may be a while until it is fully operational again, but the flood-affected Riverbend Caravan Park in South Australia’s Riverland region has just been given the all-clear to re-open.
The popular park in Renmark was closed as a precaution last December after a routine inspection of the levee was conducted by both the park and the authorities.
The Glam Adelaide website reports that the continual hard work of park staff and civil contractors alongside the continual support from engineers has paid off with the levee holding and preventing the park from flooding.
Edwards Group CEO, and owner of the Riverbend Caravan Park, Mr Stephen Edwards, said that pre-planning would allow them to quickly return the park to action.

“The park will need to remain closed for a little while longer while we undertake some
remediation works,” Mr Edwards told Glam Adelaide. “The heavy machinery used to protect the park has impacted the grounds but, now that the park has been cleared to open, we can get contractors in to help us repair them.”
The park is taking new bookings from April but it is hoping to open earlier.
“We’re just as keen to have our guests back as they are to holiday at Riverbend, and
we won’t delay re-opening the park any longer than we need to,” Mr Edwards told Glam Adelaide. “Many of the park’s guests have shared their support throughout the closure, and we have really appreciated their patience and understanding.”
Any existing guest bookings impacted by the remediation works will be contacted by the park as soon as possible.
The South Australian State Emergency Service (SASES) says ‘as per the Department for Environment and Water SA River Murray Flow report, while the peak has now passed through South Australia, flows remain elevated through the length of the River Murray in SA and the Lower Lakes’.
It said members of the public are reminded that there is still a water safety risk with strong currents and debris in the water.
