Victorian van park’s new cabins set to ease worker accommodation shortage issues

Published: August 14, 2025

A popular caravan park in regional Victoria has doubled the number of cabins it offers in a move the State Government hopes will provide fixed-term stays for local workers who are unable to find lodgings elsewhere.

It says businesses in Beaufort, west of Ballarat, have been suffering staff shortages due to a dearth of accommodation options in the area. The Government is confident the new cabins will help with that issue, while at the same time help expand Beaufort’s visitor demographics and drive business tourism in the area.

There will now be 14 cabins at the Beaufort Lake Caravan Park, including an all-abilities access cabin with two bedrooms, toilet, kitchen and ramp access – catering for people of all ages and abilities.

As well as the cabins, there are 47 camping sites at the park.

The new cabins were backed by $500,000 in funding through Regional Development Victoria. Beaufort – which has a population of around 1,700 – relies on a vibrant visitor economy to drive its growth and prosperity.

The Minister for Regional Development, Jaclyn Symes, said regional Victoria had a thriving visitor economy and investments like this only helped to make Beaufort and the Grampians region even better places to invest, live, work, play and stay.

And Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett, said the investment would lead to tourism benefits.

“Beaufort is such a popular visitor destination, and I’m excited to see more people will be able to visit the town and experience everything the region has to offer thanks to these fantastic new cabins,” she said.

The van park sits on the shores of Beaufort Lake, which is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, canoeing and water skiing.

The park says it has generous ensuite sites that hug the lake’s edge, with an additional foreshore area dedicated to powered sites. There are also unpowered sites that are suitable for caravans, RVs, campervans and tents.
