Wildflower magic leaves grey nomads in awe … and here’s where to see the show

Published: August 22, 2025

For many grey nomads travelling in WA at this time of the year, the incredible wildflowers currently on display are an absolute highlight.

However, with many species blooming in different locations at slightly different times, it’s not always easy for explorers to make sure they don’t miss out on some of the most spectacular floral explosions.

To help ensure visitors make the most of the season, Australia’s Coral Coast has just launched its dedicated Wildflower Watch page, updated regularly with reports direct from locals and wildflower enthusiasts on the ground.

It says this is the most reliable and up-to-date resource for travellers looking to plan their wildflower adventures.

With decent rainfalls over the past few weeks, the Coral Coast is experiencing a good wildflower season, with a variety of blooms already on display.  The season will last until early October on the Coral Coast, allowing visitors to view spectacular and colourful carpets of everlastings and unique species of wildflowers across outback plains and rugged landscapes.

Some of the key highlights right now include:

  • Kalbarri National Park: A vibrant mix of wattles, hakeas, native yam, red grevillea, Cowslip Orchids, Pink Milkmaids, Pink Fairy Orchids, purple Thrymptomene, sandplain woody pear, and broom milkwort are in flower, painting the national park in bright hues.
  • Mullewa: Several orchid species – such as Bunny Orchids, Spider Orchids, Snail Orchids and Blue Fairy Orchids, Wurmbea Densiflora, and Drosera Ramellosa. Yellow Pom Poms, and Pink Everlastings also recently spotted. Guided walking tours are now being offered in town.
  • Mingenew: Pink and White Everlastings beginning to bud and open (not in full bloom) at Coalseam Conservation Park. Pink Candy Orchids and Blue Fairy Orchids at the lookout. Blue Fairy Orchids spotted on Mingenew Hill.
  • Carnarvon: Shark Bay Daisy, Dampier Pea, Tephrosia sp. B Kimberley Flora and Pink Everlastings have been spotted.
  • Cape Range National Park: Expect an array of stunning wildflowers including banksias, Cape Range grevillea, felty Corchoris, green bird flower, wattles, Sturt Desert Pea, and wild rose.

Australia’s Coral Coast recommends that grey nomads and other travellers contact the relevant Visitor Centres before heading out on their wildflower watching adventures. It also says the season can be experienced on a self-drive holiday using Australia’s Coral Coast’s suggested itineraries, with recommended locations starting under two hours north of Perth.

In the region, there are also several tourism operators delivering a variety of guided tours offering expertise on local wildflowers.

Western Australia is home to thousands of species of wildflowers, more than 50% of which can only be found in Australia’s Coral Coast.
