A major redevelopment of a caravan park on Queensland’s Fraser Coast has now been completed.
The upgrade of the Burrum Heads Caravan Park was delivered in stages, with the southern end of the park finished in January, and the riverfront end completed in late August.
The newly revamped park is now fully open for bookings.
Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Michelle Byrne said the work involved replacing ageing infrastructure and adding modern facilities to better suit today’s travellers.
“Burrum Heads is a favourite for families, fishers and caravanners,” she said.

“These upgrades make stays easier, safer and more comfortable, with wider internal roads, improved services and new facilities … we thank residents, businesses and regular guests for their patience while these works were completed.”
The council said the caravan park upgrade was identified as part of the Burrum Heads Community Plan 2020 – 2030, which was developed in consultation with local groups, key stakeholders, and the wider community.
It follows the Scarness Caravan Park redevelopment, which was completed in late 2024. Work on the Pialba Caravan Park upgrade recently began.
“A key focus for council is to plan for the future, and to effectively manage and maintain our assets, and these projects are an example of how we are working to achieve that for our community,” Cr Byrne said.

My goodness , and you think that this will inspire someone to stop here?
What is needed is a place with trees, pleasant surroundings and a welcoming feel .
Please try again to get it right
What’s wrong with it? Nice and open, easy to park the caravan, lots of open solar spots, no danger of limbs falling off trees and squashing your van. Beautiful water views. Perfect!
Of the 9 visible sites 5 necessitate reversing in to the left where the caravan will obstruct the driver’s view of the pad. Genius!
Most caravan parks are the same. If you own a van, you need to learn how to reverse with mirrors.
Open thine eyes and invest in an inexpensive van mounted reversing camera.
Spent 12 consecutive Xmas holidays here in a tent with our kids in the 80/90s. Upgrade looks great. We have a waterfront site booked for October. Looking forward to making new memories
I had to laugh at the last statement by Cr Byrne, considering that the council wants to close down the Torquay Caravan Park, unbelievable that they spent that amount of money at Burrum Heads. I first went to Torquay Park as a 14 year old, took my kids back and next week my Grandson has his first visit, Spend the money here as well
Actually, although shade is nice, I personally don’t like tree limbs falling on me, too may close shaves. It’s great to have new facilities I will look forward to a visit there.
It looks that every one would be on top of each other.
