Long-term farm caretaker couple; Namoi River, Gunnedah NSW

December 2026 to July 2027 – possibly longer

Hello Nomads!

We are looking for a friendly, practical and reliable couple to make our beautiful cattle property on the Namoi River, just 15 minutes from Gunnedah, their home while we are living in Sydney.

This is a lifestyle/caretaking arrangement rather than a full-time farm position, with a lovely long-term base on the property in return for agreed light caretaking duties.

It would particularly suit retired or semi-retired travellers with their own caravan or motorhome who would enjoy settling in for six to seven months rather than constantly moving on.

We would especially love to hear from retired farmers, farming couples, or people with previous rural or cattle experience.

The property offers plenty of space and privacy, lovely areas for walking, fishing in the Namoi River, birdlife and wildlife, and the chance to really settle in and enjoy farm life.

You are very welcome to:

  • establish your own vegetable or herb garden
  • keep a few chickens
  • bring a well-behaved dog, provided it is safe around cattle
  • enjoy fishing, walking and the peace and space of the property

Bathroom and laundry facilities are available, including a lovely old claw-foot bathtub.

In return, we are looking for someone who can be our eyes and ears on the farm while we are away.

Light caretaking duties would include:

  • keeping lawns and grass around the house, sheds and accommodation silos mown and trimmed
  • regularly checking cattle and letting us know if anything doesn’t look quite right
  • checking troughs, tanks and water systems for leaks, overflows or problems
  • keeping an eye on fences, gates and the general property
  • checking around after storms for fallen trees, damaged fencing or other issues
  • identifying priority weeds such as African Box Thorn, Green Cestrum, Tiger Pear and Honey Locust seedlings so they can be treated
  • occasionally helping keep troughs and areas around buildings tidy
  • keeping an eye on the property from a security point of view
  • collecting the occasional parcel or mail delivery
  • meeting a contractor or tradesperson from time to time if we have arranged for someone to visit
  • sending us occasional photos or updates on how the cattle, water and property are looking

We are not looking for someone to manage the farm or undertake heavy farm work.

More than anything, we would love to find a couple with good practical common sense who are comfortable in a rural environment and who notice when something simply doesn’t look right.

There may also be some optional paid work available if our small farm-stay accommodation is operating during this period, such as changing linen and preparing the accommodation between guests.

We are only 15 minutes from Gunnedah, so you can enjoy the peace and space of farm life while still being close to supermarkets, cafés, medical services, pubs, clubs and town facilities.

Ideally, we would like someone who can stay for the full period from December 2026 until July 2027, with the possibility of staying longer if the arrangement works well for everyone.

A well-behaved dog is very welcome.

References will be required.

If this sounds like the sort of place you would enjoy calling home for six months or more, please get in touch and tell us a little about yourselves, your caravan or motorhome setup, any farming or caretaking experience, whether you are travelling with a dog, and your availability.

We would love to hear from you!
