While they may vary a bit in quality and comfort, it’s fair to say that the vast majority of campchairs at most Happy Hour circles share a fairly similar design.
But some companies – like US-based Nemo – are trying to do things a little differently … and luxury-loving grey nomads could reap the benefits.
While Nemo’s Stargaze Recliner – with its smooth recline and hammock-like swinging suspension – has been around for few years now, its successor, the Stagaze Evo-X, has just arrived, bringing even more innovation to the table.
The Stargaze auto-reclines to the preferred sitting angle with the chair’s occupant simply leaning back and shifting their body weight to make the move. Tensioned straps support a deep reclining angle to offer users a full view of the night sky.

Its durable steel frame boasts six points of contact with the floor and a flared foot to enhance stability. It has a body-cradling seat which features enhanced cushioning at pressure points, a padded Page 10 headrest, and flexible back support to complement the chair’s relaxing motion.
The new outdoor chair also boasts a folding frame that smoothly unfurls in one step, creating a swinging, auto-reclining seat in seconds.
“We focussed on maximising comfort and convenience while delivering a satisfying user experience,” said Nemo’s senior furniture designer, Rich Woessner. “Integrating the seat and frame into a single permanently connected structure was a key decision that makes instant setup feel natural and satisfying.”
The new campchair, which weighs 6.2kg, can support someone weighing 136kg.
It comes in five colours, has two integrated cupholders, and comes with a carrying case with adjustable shoulder strap for easy portability.
The Nemo Stargaze Evo-X has a recommended retail price of around A$275.
