Major change is afoot at a well-established Great Ocean Road caravan park.
The family that has run the Anglesea Beachfront Family Caravan Park for the past 20 years has been told that their tenure will soon be at an end. Instead, the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) will take over the running of the park when the current lease expires on December 1 next year.
The committee says a tender process “did not find an acceptable proposal for the value of the site”.
However, park manager Justin Morris, labelled the decision ‘embarrassing’, and said that the family had previously committed to spend in excess of $10 million for upgrades.
GORCC CEO Richard Davies told the Geelong Advertiser that none of the park’s current staff — understood to number 25 — would not lose their jobs in the transition and that GORCC would develop a master plan to manage what he described as a “great tourism asset”.
“We will work closely with the community to ensure the future directions for the park and investment in the park and environment are in accordance with community, camper and visitor expectations,” he said. “At the time of change of management no current guests, campers and permit holders will be disadvantaged by the change.”
