Services are being held around the country to mark the 99th anniversary of the World War I Anzac landing at Gallipoli.
Anzac Day is also when Australians remember those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. It is now well documented that the spirit of Anzac, with its human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, has – and will continue to have – meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity.
Of course, many, many grey nomads have served their country proudly, and are always well represented among the huge crowds which gather in towns and cities across the country to pay tribute to those who have fallen.
Over the years, hundreds of thousands of brave men and women have fought and died to protect our freedoms. We commend their courage and selflessness.
