When the grey nomads of Australia gather under awnings or around campfires, one debate is sure to get passions enflamed like no other … where is the most scenic toilet in the country?
Well, there’s now a new kid on the amenities block to further muddy the proverbial waters. Parks Victoria has proudly unveiled a new ‘loo with a view’ at Macalister Springs in the Alpine National Park. The new architect-designed square-shaped toilet replaces an old one that required significant maintenance and it delivers stunning views over the Alps.
“I think the bushwalking public will develop a great attachment to this new loo and it will still be a favourite spot in 50 years,” said Parks Victoria ranger, Wayne McCallum. “The angular windows and building have been designed to complement the nearby Vallejo Gantner Hut, which is one of the most popular huts for bushwalkers in this section of the mountains.”
The one toilet uses a sealed tank system to ensure there is no waste or discharge into the local environment, which is replaced when full. The project cost $50,000 including design, construction and installation.
