Grey nomad Graeme Smith explains how his ‘trailer sailor’ offers the best of both worlds
Some of the ‘caravan boats’ on the market are potentially interesting, but look too small to effectively caravan on water or land.
Why not consider a cruising quipped trailer sailer instead?
At 28 foot in length, our floating caravan (Imexus 28) equates to the living space of about a 20-foot caravan in my view. It features a shower/ toilet compartment, standing headroom at the kitchen, and dining for six and sleeping for five and child.
Like most caravans, it’s really comfortable for a couple who have occasional guests.
With a built-in elevated outdoor entertaining area (the covered cockpit) and the ability to access the very best waterfront free campsites and fishing spots, it’s a genuine alternative to caravanning.
We also sleep in it on land when travelling between cruising destinations.
Not really, setting up the rigging & other paraphernalia before launching is a lot of hard work. I’ll stick with my caravan its more relaxing.
Nan and pop did that in the late 60s through to late 70s
We do, on our Boat a home. 26 feet. Cruised the Murray 4 weeks with a week each side to get there and back. Free camped mostly when on the road, and at boat ramps. Has everything a caravan has including side awning, roof access for 4 with Bimini etc etc.
Omg love it. Never seen one before
