Grey nomads warned they might get wet this spring!

Published: September 6, 2021

As if staying clear of lockdowns and not getting caught out by border restrictions wasn’t making the grey nomad lifestyle challenging enough at the moment, it seems life is also about to get wet, wet, wet for travellers … at least for those in the east.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s seasonal outlook shows spring is set to be soggy in eastern Australia, although there will probably be below average rainfall in  parts of coastal Western Australia and south-west Tasmania.

“Virtually all of eastern Australia is looking wet,” the BOM’s head of operational climate services Andrew Watkins told the ABC. “With a negative Indian Ocean Dipole, we’ve got warm ocean temperatures near Western Australia, and that’s pumping a lot more cloud and moisture across the continent and giving wetter than average conditions.”

That is despite the El Niño–Southern Oscillation climate driver being in neither a La Niña state (which would favour rain) nor an El Niño state (which would favour drought).

“We have some signs that we could be heading towards La Niña, though the forecasting models have been backing off a little bit of late,” Dr Watkins told the ABC.  “Typically, even if we don’t get to La Niña levels, that would help enhance rainfall in parts of eastern Australia.”

The wet-looking spring follows on from a wet winter in much of the country, particularly in south-west Western Australia.

“Nationally, we’ve seen the wettest winter since 2016,” Dr Watkins said. “In the south-west, they’ve had a good old-fashioned winter with a continuing series of cold fronts bringing pretty consistent rainfall, particularly during June and July … that’s keeping things fairly wet in those areas and the crops are going gangbusters.”

There’s mixed news on the temperature front, with the northern tropics and the far south-east likely to be warmer than average through spring, but below average daytime temperatures are more likely for other areas of southern Australia and up into southern Queensland.

Greta tried to get china to stop cutting down trees for chop sticks, china replied that chop sticks are made form bamboo, then they asked what does she use for toilet paper.

I’m glad Anna Bligh is not around to pump sewage into our water supply as that is apparently low at the moment. No Anastasia don’t even think of it either. If it’s going to rain it’s because of bloody climate change so get on to the greenies as quickly as you can. IDIOTS!!! Rain you beauty!! .

The older I get the more normal fluctuations in climate and weather are.
As long as we have some sort of weather we are ok.
If the governments and councils did not let development in normal run off places and do land fills for more houses to charge rates, in inappropriate places we would not notice as many “Natural” disasters and fires etc, these were happening thousands and even hundreds of years ago.

In answer to your question, what to do if wet weather. We Watch TV, write diary, read a book, phone chat with family. Love putting on a raincoat and go for a walk.
Sometimes we check for better weather elsewhere, and head off to there.
Not into all above politics. Focus more on positive and simple things in life.

No point in complaining about the weather -the one thing we cannot change….Humans love to complain about the weather don’t they. Mother Nature will do as she wants-regadless.

I hope and pray Tim and Greta don’t read this Sue. They might unfortunately take matters into their own hands and call Prince Charles to help out. But you are spot on.

We all must remember that we are dealing with the Biggest Female of ALL. MOTHER NATURE She does what she wants .
And the Governments and Rich can’t tell her what to do or control Her.
Good on HER. Smile
