‘Sold’ Cape York property to become tourism mecca?

Published: August 19, 2021

The Queensland Government has bought a massive Cape York property which has the potential to be turned into an eco-tourism mecca.

The Department of Environment and Science has bought Bramwell Station, 240 kilometres south of the Tip, for a reported $11.5m in an online auction.

The sprawling 131,900-hectare property is located at the start of the Old Telegraph track and already has a roadhouse, caravan park and open camping area.

As well as income from cattle, the property’s carbon credit scheme can generate more than $150,000 a year.

The roadhouse acts as the last fuel stop before the Jardine River Crossing.

A statement issued by DES says the government is continuing to progress discussions and contractual arrangements with the vendor on Bramwell Station. It did not elaborate on its plans for the property.

“We will have more to announce once that is finalised,” the statement said.

I used to work up there, what are they going to do with all the crocodiles, feed the tourists to them, charge double, like they always do.
