Converted bus catches fire on busy Gold Coast street

Published: March 17, 2020

A bus that had been converted into a motorhome has burst into flames on the Gold Coast … but the situation could have been much worse.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottles on the bus have been spared by the inferno, preventing a potential explosion.

Local media reports that two crews of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services firefighters were called to the scene at Yatala.

They found the bus fully engulfed when they arrived and donned breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

The incident happened early this afternoon at Stanmore Rd and Paterson Rd and caused traffic chaos for several hours.

Paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service were also on the scene, and assessed a man of an undisclosed age. The man did not appear injured and declined a trip to hospital.

It’s not yet known what caused the bus fire.
