A fire that may have been deliberately lit is continuing to pose problems for travellers in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
Over the past 10 days, the blaze has burnt 15,000 hectares of bush north of Broome and people in the area are advised to leave in a southerly direction now if the coast is clear, or to take refuge at the nearest beach.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services say the fire is a threat to people travelling on Cape Leveque Road and Manari Road, as well as Quondong campsite and areas around James Price Point.
Media reports suggest variable wind conditions in the area mean the fire is now moving out-of-control in a north north-westerly direction towards motorists and campers.
The fire started on Cape Leveque Road, 30 kilometres from the Broome Highway.
Firefighters are assisting with evacuations and actively fighting the fire.
