It seems like the march of cabins into Australian caravan parks isn’t about to slow down any time soon.
In the latest example, Victoria’s Wimmera Mallee region is set to up its cabin game … thanks to a $3 million investment from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
The initiative will see 16 self-contained cabins built across caravan parks throughout the region.
The Victorian Government says that the cabins will aim to improve the diversity of accommodation options in the area, while also allowing visitors to remain close to the Wimmera Mallee’s best tourist attractions.

The developments are expected to generate $990,000 in annual accommodation revenue to the Wimmera Mallee, and over 15,000 new overnight stays in the region.
The Government says the Wimmera Mallee project will also encourage tourists to stay longer and more easily access the natural and cultural attractions the Grampians region has to offer.
The Victorian Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund is designed to entice more visitors to Victoria’s regions, driving private investment and accelerating the recovery of the tourism sector.
While there is no indication that this initiative will mean a reduction in touring sites in the region’s caravan parks to make way for the new cabins, that has been something that has happened in van parks in other areas as ‘cabin fever’ continues to play its part in responding to the upswing in domestic travel demnd.

Absolutely,
Looks like cabin parks are going to grow as there will be less capability to tow caravans in the future due to the trend to electric vehicles. There is also the fact that the motel owners are losing out on the nearly million dollars and 15000 over night stays. Robbing Peter to pay Paul?
Shame it is happening There is a place cabins but certainly do t promote as a “ caravan Park”
Along with a number of friends and acquantices we have sold our van and now use the money from the sale to stay in cabins and the like. Less hassle, less travel cost and more amenity. Speaking with others in cabins I believe this is a growing trend as we grey nomads begin to find caravaning just a bit too much.
Agree, we sold our camper and now use cabins or motels when traveling. It suits us especially my wife. Yes it’s more expensive per night but we can buy a lot of accomodation with the money saved from investing in a new van
