Driving a large vehicle like a motorhome or towing a caravan requires skill and care, and each town or stretch of road can prevent its own little challenges … there may be narrow streets, or low bridges, or overhanging tree limbs. However, a traveller in the Queensland town of Rosewood could be forgiven for being caught out by a seriously sloping road this week.
The unlucky caravanner hit the guttering of a building in the main street as the top of his vehicle leaned over with the extreme camber.
Locals have long been complaining that the crown in the middle of John St is too high and has caused footpaths and shops to be flooded in heavy rain, as well as resulting in several large vehicles colliding with shop fronts because of the slope.
“A caravan took out the drain pipe of the solicitor’s building because the camber in the road is too high in the middle and having to park on an angle, the caravan hit the downpipe of the building.,” local councillor, David Pahlke, told the Queensland Times. “This is what is happening all the time and it is only a matter of time before a big truck takes out a main post holding up a building and an awning collapses.”
Apparently, that is something that did happen back in 1980s, and the town’s pub and newsagent say similar ‘collisions’ have happened on many other occasions.
Cr Pahlke and local business owners want the State Government to level the crown in the main street.

Same thing happened to us on the road by the river in Maclean in northern NSW. The road has a high camber and the telegraph poles are right at the road edge of the footpath. I’m sure our ‘accident’ amused those in the pub just there.
It happened to me in a caravan park, a tree branch pushed the top side of my van in.
