Caravan rollover couple finally reunited with dog

Published: August 20, 2015

The caravanning couple involved in a terrifying rollover on the Stuart Highway last month have finally been reunited with their much-loved pet dog.

Cruise the Shetland sheepdog fled into the bush after the accident three weeks ago on the Stuart Highway at Virginia, about 30 kilometres south of Darwin.

While her husband miraculously escaped unscathed, Kaye Pisani suffered broken ribs when the couple’s caravan flipped pulling their four-wheel-drive with it into a ditch. As she recovered from the shock and her injuries, Kaye has been frantic with worry about her beloved Cruise.

“I don’t think there’s been a time in the last three and a half weeks that I haven’t cried for him,” Kaye Pisani told 9NEWS. “He’s been everything.”

While Kaye’s three other sheepdogs were quickly picked up, Cruise fled following the  accident.

“I couldn’t care less what happened to me on the accident,” Kaye Pisani told 9NEWS. “I just kept saying to the emergency services ‘get the dogs, get the dogs!’.”

A huge social media appeal has followed and has just yielded the result that Kaye had been dreaming of. She has now been reunited with Cruise, who was uninjured in his three-week adventure.

He was however reported as being a little hungry …. and very, very happy to be home .
