Caravanner escapes injury in accident

Published: September 18, 2012

A four-wheel drive towing a caravan jackknifed and crashed into a guard rail on the Warrego Highway near Marburg in Queensland on Sunday. The accident caused major delays as both lanes of the highway were obstructed.

Police said the female driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero tested positive to alcohol when breath-tested at the accident site. No one was injured in the incident.

The Queensland Times newspaper reports that two fire engines were called to the scene after police became concerned that a 9kg gas bottle on the caravan had been crushed and might have been ruptured. The 4WD knocked down part of the guard rail along the right-hand lane of the highway. Police issued the driver of the vehicle with a notice to appear in court after charging her with drink-driving.
