Could former Bruce Highway service station make a good van park?

Published: May 1, 2026

A former petrol station in Far North Queensland where grey nomads often used to leave their caravans when heading inland to the Kirrama Range is up for sale … and a caravan park is being mooted as one of the potential uses.

The 2.7-acre sits on the Bruce Highway approximately 10 kilometres north of Cardwell, and 30 kilometres south of Tully.

Agents LJ Hooker, which has listed the property at $1.2 million, says there is plenty of potential.

“Boasting prominent highway frontage and excellent visibility, the property is ideally suited to a wide range of commercial uses,” it said.  “Potential opportunities may include reopening as a fuel station, establishing a food outlet, fast-food chain or a truck stop, developing a caravan park, or exploring alternative business concepts tailored to the high-exposure location.”

While the service station has been closed for several years now, LJ Hooker says the last owner would allow people to drop off their caravans before heading west to the Kirrama Range.

“The generous land size offers ample space for expansion, parking, and future development, making it ideal for owner-operators or investors seeking to capitalise on passing traffic and regional growth,” it said.
