The longest journey starts with the first two steps!
Stung by their realisation that living a conventional life would mean they would never get to see all of America’s stunning national parks, friends Darius Nabors and Trevor Kemp decided to do something about it.
The pair quit their jobs and hatched a plan to visit the 59 national parks in the United States in just 59 weeks. While many of Australia’s grey nomads may have a little more time up their travelling sleeves than those young American travellers, they also have a slightly more daunting task if they want to ‘see the lot’.
There are reportedly more than 500 national parks in Australia spread across a giant continent in often inhospitable and difficult-to-access country. And that’s even before we look at state forests and conservation areas!
While the fact that many national parks have been established around stunning natural landmarks means that many are destinations high on the agenda of caravanners and mothomers, others are considerably less visited, and require a little more ‘effort’.
So, the search is on to find the grey nomad who has visited the most of our incredible national parks, and made the biggest effort to do so?
Do you keep a list of the parks you have visited? How many do you reckon you have ‘ticked off the list’? Visiting which national park required the most effort? Let us know below.
