We just completed a trip from Melbourne to Alice Springs and back staying at caravan parks. We were amazed at the number of vehicles travelling at 20+kph within the parks. We heard many change into second gear. Kids playing, slower moving grey nomads.. but they still sped along, both young and old drivers.
How many of our children are going to be injured by people who ignore posted speed limits in caravan parks ? Time to wake up to yourself , a fatality is inevitable the way some fools drive around
This is a horrible situation for all concerned and I hope the children suffer no permanent damage.
We avoid Caravan Parks which have things like, jumping pillows, water parks, gym, putt putt golf, outdoor cinema, interactive play areas etc. They are designed to attract children who, I’m sure, have wonderful experiences while staying there but too many times we’ve found it scary trying to drive in and set up camp. It’s a dangerous combination, unsupervised children and vehicles all within a limited space. Regardless of who is to blame for an accident the resulting trauma is lasting for everyone and has a ripple effect.
Obviously I don’t know the circumstances of this accident but I do think Caravan Park and Holiday Village management need to do more to control the areas in which vehicles and children intermix.
Totally agree with Sue. If you don’t have kids/grandkids to look after and entertain, avoid staying in family orientated holiday parks. Speed is not always an accident factor since many kids are hit by reversing vehicles.
Cannot say that this is relevant to this particular case as we do not know the circumstances, but it brings up the fact that too many people drive way too fast through caravan parks.
I have witnessed near misses quite a few times with drivers speed being a large factor.
Please slow down, if you are one of those people who insist on travelling at more than walking pace through a busy park.
Kids just do not think and can run out from between the vans, never mind many older ones who are not that spry at getting out of the way.
We are sorry to hear this, but it did not surprise me, we stayed at the ski club in Mulwala on grand final weekend and the children there riding electric scooters at speeds were very dangerous not only to themselves but to pedestrians and motorists, I sent an email to the ski club to inform them of this but never heard back, hopefully these scooters are banned in all caravan parks before a very serious injury happens. .
Walking speed is posted at the entrance to most caravan parks, yet people sometimes drive through very quickly. We have been abused when doing the sign for slow down. Hopefully people will learn from this. I have my doubts though.
I find that idiots also speed in shopping centre car parks
