It probably shouldn’t need saying but firefighters have urged caravanners to take care while cooking and to never to leave hot oil unattended.
The earning comes after a man at a caravan park in Wedderburn in Victoria was lucky to escape alive after forgetting to turn off the heat beneath cooking oil before going to bed.
The Bendigo Advertiser reports that the man awoke to the van in flames and quickly scrambled to get out. Other people in the caravan park acted speedily to try to bring the fire under control before firefighters arrived.
However, the caravan and its annex were totally gutted in the blaze.
“He had cooked some hot chips and forgot to turn off the fryer and fell asleep,” said Wedderburn Fire Brigade Captain, Anne Hassell.
After extinguishing the blaze, the fire brigade remained on site to check for any remaining hot spots with their thermal imaging camera.
I have the same routine when out on the road as i do at home. I serve the food up and rinse the pans quickly amd check the cooking appliances. Then eat
Then before climbing into bed, i check the car, check doors then check stove.
Chip fryer inside the van? What could possibly go wrong?
Had one for over 10 years nothing has gone wrong.
